About Accreditation


Introduction
  • Upon initiation of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology (HKAG) and the recommendation of the Social Welfare Department (SWD), the Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee has approved funding for HKAG to undertake a 2-year "Pilot Project on Accreditation System for Residential Care Services for the Elders in Hong Kong".

  • HKAG completed the Report on Pilot Project on Accreditation System for Residential Care Services for the Elders in Hong Kong (the Report) in September 2004. The Report was disseminated to the sector and
    relevant Government departments/ organizations (including the Health,
    Welfare and Food Bureau, the Hospital Authority (HA), the Social Welfare Department (SWD) and the Department of Health (DH)) in early 2005. Along the recommendations in the Report, HKAG launched the Scheme on a self-financing basis in March 2005. The management
    system of RACAS is in accordance with ISO/ IEC 17021: 2011.

  • Report On Pilot Project on Accreditation System for Residential Care Services for the Elders in Hong Kong


Purpose
  • To promote the quality of care through promulgation of the quality process
    and outcome monitoring in residential care services for elders; and

  • To serve as a service quality reference benchmark for the community.

  • To provide information for the public to select elderly home which have been accredited.


Characteristics
  • The residential Aged Care Accreditation Scheme implemented by the HKAG is a voluntary accreditation scheme specifically designed for aged homes in HK.

  • The accreditation of residential home will be based on objective accreditation standards as tested out in pilot project. A total 40 standards are designed for the accredit.

  • The onsite accreditation is conducted by assessors from health care & social work professionals with adequate experience in aged care like physicians, nurses, social workers, allied health professionals.

  • The accredited home should be satisfactorily completed the whole
    accreditation process will be awarded a certificate.

  • The accreditation scheme is a 3-year accreditation cycle with annual review be adopted to ensure their quality system is still in order.
